Snohomish County leaders said social distancing and face masks are still imperative as regions start to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to frontline workers and senior populations.
Like many others nationwide, the county has seen its COVID-19 positive cases climb during what some health experts call a second wave of the highly contagious virus.
During a two-week stretch in early December, the county’s health district reported an increase of 428 per 100,000 residents.
“This means that people are getting COVID from folks that they know or live with or in community settings like workplaces, church and also social gatherings,” Snohomish Health District Health Officer Chris Spitters said, KING 5 news reported. “Those are all signals that COVID is going up and appears to be doing so without any interruption.”
The latest spread of the virus has been linked to more people visiting friends and relatives in in-door spaces that health officials believe is more dangerous than previously thought.
