A Snohomish County jail employee was arrested for alleged drug smuggling, the Everett Daily Herald reported.
Authorities told the Everett Daily Herald that 44-year-old Alexis Wafstet, a classification specialist, stands accused of possessing heroin and other drugs in addition to smuggling narcotics into the jail at least three times.
Wafstet was taken into custody on May 12 following the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation into the purported plot involving eight inmates.
Wafstet’s identity was first concealed from the public upon her arrest, according to the Everett Daily Herald.
The investigation was conducted after jail staff notified the Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force of possible drug smuggling earlier this month. Wafstet reportedly had drugs at her residence in Everett.
Detectives conducted a search of her home and discovered 3.8 grams of heroin inside a package wrapped in a nitrile glove, authorities told the Everett Daily Herald.
“I am incredibly proud of and I would like to personally thank the corrections deputy who intercepted the inmate communications and immediately reported it,” Snohomish County Sheriff Adam Fortney said in a statement.
