Snohomish County Sheriff Adam Fortney is facing a recall after he publicly refused to enforce Gov. Jay Inslee's stay-at-home order.
At a rally against the stay-at-home order, Fortney told a crowd of 400 participants that it should not be controversial to talk about constitutional rights at this time, KIRO reported.
Fortney told KIRO that he is ready for a long political battle, saying the woman who filed the recall petition has six months to gather signatures.
“The only reason it would be daunting to me is that I’d rather be working on public safety than working on that crap,” Fortney told KIRO. “I think it’s ridiculous and frivolous and I don’t think we should be having to go through that.”
Several rally-goers agreed with Fortney and said the stay-at-home order is detrimental to small businesses in the area, KIRO reported.
But Fortney said he will fight for his position.
“I worked a year of my life to get elected to be Snohomish County Sheriff. I’m a 23 -year street cop. All I care about is doing that,” he told KIRO.
