With the recent release of guidance from State Superintendent Chris Reykdal for reopening schools in the fall, Snohomish County schools are still determining how they will approach instruction in the new school year and parents are eager for answers, King 5 reported.
Parents varied widely in their take on how schools should approach learning, with concerns over the spread of COVID-19 still being taken into account.
For some, the idea of being able to get their kids out of the home and back into the schools is a welcome one.
One parent said that if her family had chosen home schooling, that would be one thing, but they chose public school and want their children back in class, King 5 reported.
It becomes complicated for other parents, though.
Katie Rivers told King 5 that her son’s medical condition makes keeping a mask on for prolonged periods impossible. Yet, like many, Rivers pointed out that her own schedule prevents her from considering and option such as taking her son out of school and homeschooling him full time.
For Rivers, some kind of alternative that gave balance or permitted her son to attend school without being forced to wear a mask would be preferred.
Meanwhile, schools that have plans, are still working out what they will do and were unable to share details on what parents can expect in the fall, King 5 reported.
