The Snohomish County Human Services Department recently announced the outcomes of a study that reveals the number of people living with homelessness for 2020, according to a press release from the county.
The PIT Count, which is held annually, was held on January 22, 2020, this year. This study was conducted by volunteers, county personnel and other agency staff. The number document this year was 1,132 homeless persons who dwell in Snohomish County.
State and federal funders require the PIT Count, according to the press release. Officials use the data to plan programs. Snohomish County officials also say they are working to improve the accuracy of PIT Count data. A more accurate count will open the door to better possibilities.
The PIT Count also counts people who are currently residing in emergency homeless shelters, people that are using transitional housing, and even people living without any shelter at all.
The unsheltered count relies on volunteer survey takers who visit campsites, food banks and known areas where the homelessness congregate.
