No one was injured in a commercial building fire.
Multiple people called 911 just after 3:30 p.m. yesterday to report a fire in a commercial building in the 9600 block of Evergreen Way. The building, a medium one-story strip mall over a basement with a garage, was reported to have heavy black smoke and fire coming from the garage area of the building.
Responding fire units reported seeing a smoke column from as far away as SR 526 and Evergreen Way. Arriving crews found a working fire in the basement garage area where two vehicles were parked. Both vehicles were damaged in the fire. Firefighters contained the fire to the garage and basement area, preventing it from spreading to other tenants within the strip mall, and helped ventilate smoke out of adjoining businesses within the same complex.
Over 17 fire and EMS units were on scene with mutual aid assistance received from South County Fire. Everett Police assisted with road closures for several hours around Evergreen Way and 4th Ave W.
Early damage estimates are around $150K. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Everett Fire Marshal’s Office.
