EvCC's Advanced Manufacturing Training & Education Center (AMTEC) helps students get equipped for high-demand
careers with hands-on training in
engineering technology, composites, precision machining, mechatronics, welding and fabrication, aviation maintenance
technology, and advanced avionics.
In a series of three sessions, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, and Welding and Fabrication will be explored.
November 3: Mechatronics
Robotics and automation is the future of manufacturing. This state-of-the-art training integrates skills in electrical mechanics,
computerized components, and industrial manufacturing and assembly to prepare you for an in-demand job as an electro
mechanical technician working in robotics operations, testing, and equipment maintenance.
Ken Ackerman, mechatronics instructor, will facilitate this session. Ken has been an instructor at AMTEC for 7 years and
has had experience both in the engineering side as well as maintenance/hands on side of machines.
November 10: Engineering Technology
Design your own future. Gain skills and knowledge in a variety of technical design subjects, including computer aided design
(CAD) software such as CATIA, Solid Works and AutoCAD. Skills learned in this program are taught using applied methods
where training is practical and hands-on.
David Primacio, engineering technology instructor, will present this session. David has a background working as an
Engineering Tech Designer, Tool Designer, NC programmer and CAD instructor since 1987. David's background
emphasized working in the aerospace industry primarily in commercial aircraft with Boeing, Airbus and D3 Technologies.
David also has experience in the Auto industry as aTech designer for companies such as Freightliner. David has been with
Everett Community College since 2012 and strives to teach the next generation of designers practical application to keep
jobs here in America.
November 17: Welding and Fabrication
EvCC's welding and fabrication program teaches all major welding and cutting processes, including: SMAW, GMAW, FCAW,
FCAW-S, GTAW, OAC, PAC; welding on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum; hand and machine torch cutting; and field
welding techniques. The emphasis in the welding program is not only on welding skills, but also on fabrication techniques,
which is a unique feature of the EVCC program. This series of classes includes heavy plate fabrication, sheet metal
fabrication, pipefitting and pipe systems fabrication, structural steel fabrication, and field-welding techniques. Extensive
classes in Blueprint Reading, Layout and Metallurgy are also offered. Welding classes are offered both days and evenings.
Jason "Spike" Speicher will lead this session. He has a background working as a laborer with the Laborer’s Union Local 292
for over 20 years. This includes working with many crafts, tools, and equipment, working in underground tunnels, directional
drilling, welding for a distribution pipeline company, and a SME for Welding which includes writing up curriculum for the
Laborers Union and the National. Spike has been a Welding Instructor at Everett Community College since 2012 and an
advisor for American Welding Society Club, AMTEC Club, and for students signing up for future classes. Spike is also a
Substitute Teacher for Sno-Isle Skills Center Welding Program and is part of an Advisory Board for the Sno-Isle Welding
Program and an Advisory Board for Arlington High School Manufacturing Welding Program.
