Many plants that we consider weeds are more nutritious and flavorful than our garden variety crops. Learn about common wild plants that can be gathered and used for food, health, and beauty. Reduce the need for chemical herbicides by finding wild foods in your backyard- plants you may be fighting as weeds! We'll also discuss considerations for harvesting wild plants that include safety, permissions, and plant identification.

Carey Thornton has been gardening and teaching classes with Tilth Alliance for over a decade, with expertise in organic gardening, food preservation and permaculture. She works at Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands, manages Tilth Alliance’s community learning garden at Bradner Park, and has also worked as an educator for the Garden Hotline.
